MS Word Layout Tab
Layout tab is used to make changes in the layout of a page in a Word document like page orientation, page margins, page breaks, spacing, page size and page borders etc. A brief description of each of the features and buttons in the layout tab is given below.
To change the margins for a page, click this button. A list of pre-defined margins will appear. Custom Margins link is also available under the margins button to apply custom settings for the margins.
Click this button to change the page orientation of a document from portrait to landscape.
Click this button to change the paper size that will be used for the document. A list of different paper sizes are available in the options. Click More Paper Sizes option to select a size that is not in the list.
A drop down list of different column formats will be displayed by clicking this button. Select one of the options from the given list to apply to the selected text in the document. Use the More Columns link to open the Columns dialog box for more column setting options.
To insert page breaks, column breaks, and section breaks into a document, use this button. Many different types of breaks are available by clicking this button.
To put number in front of lines in a document, use this button. This numbering can be continuous throughout the document or can be re-started with each page or each section of the word document. Click the Line Numbering Options link to open the Page Setup dialog box for more options.
Hyphenation button is used to specify how hyphens in a document should be applied. The options available are None, Automatic, and Manual. Click the Hyphenation Options link to specify more options related to Hyphenation.
Page Setup Dialog Box Launcher
The button is located in the lower right corner of the Page Setup Group that is used to open the Page Setup dialog box where other paragraph and Margins formatting options can be viewed.
To apply a temporary right or left margin to a document, this option is used. The size of the indent is specified by clicking the up and down arrows. Normally the indent feature is used to format some long quotes in a document or to text with indent bullets and numbering.
This button with blue right facing arrow can change the indent for the left margin. Click the up and down arrows to apply indents in a document. The indent cannot be increased or decreased for any part of a paragraph it can be applied to the whole paragraph.
With the help of up and down arrows for this button, temporary right margin to a paragraph can be increased or decreased.
Click this button to change the spacing before and after a paragraph in a document. In spite of pressing the Enter key twice before and after each paragraph to apply spacing in a document, this option can be used.
Click the up and down arrows to change the number of spacing before a paragraph in a document. The spacing will change in difference of six. The spacing of 12 numbers means one blank line before paragraphs.
Click the up and down arrows to increase and decrease the spacing in increments of 6 in a document after each paragraph. The difference of number six means one-half of a blank line between text paragraphs.
Paragraph Settings Dialog Box Launcher
Button which is located in the lower right corner of the Paragraph Group is used to open the Paragraph dialog box that helps to set the spacing between paragraphs and to break paragraphs in a word document.
Click this button to select the position of the object inserted into a document such as a text box, graphic image, WordArt, and other objects.
This feature with several options available in list helps to specify how text will wrap around an object.
When one object like image of text box etc. has been placed on top of another one, this feature of MS Word is used to bring the backward object to the front of the other one. Click the drop down arrow to select Bring to Front, Bring Forward or bring any object to Front of Text.
Click this button for moving the top object to the backward of another. Select the object to be sent to the backward and click this button to apply changes. Select other options from the drop down arrow to such as Send to Back, Send Backward, and Send to Back of Text.
Use this button to align an object or a group of selected objects to the left, right, top, and bottom of the page.
To group objects together to be treated as a single object, click this button.
Click this button to rotate or flip any object inserted into the document.
